After the Supreme Court of India went into its summer vacation on May 20, a public debate has been sparked over whether the judiciary needs reforms and the need for month-long vacation. The debate peaked when the Supreme Court itself had to retort to Economist Sanjeev Sanyal’s criticisim of judges for “working for very few hours” and taking “vacations”.
