Hillary Clinton has become the latest Democrat to say Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and running mate JD Vance are “creepy” and “weird,” with a now-viral post on X, formerly Twitter.
Clinton wrote yesterday, “if Republican leaders don’t enjoy being called weird, creepy, and controlling, they could try not being weird, creepy, and controlling.” The post had been viewed more than 4.8 million times by Tuesday.

The post comes after Kamala Harris‘ campaign has taken “weird” as its new attack line against the Republican ticket. At a Massachusetts campaign fundraiser on Saturday night, the vice president said: “You may have noticed, Donald Trump has been resorting to some wild lies about my record. And some of what he and his running mate are saying, well, it’s just plain weird. I mean that’s the box you put that in.”
On Friday, the campaign sent out a news release titled: “JD Vance is a creep (who wants to ban abortion nationwide).” It listed some of his stances on restricting abortion access and wrote that it “isn’t just bad policy—it’s creepy, it’s unacceptable, and voters won’t stand for it.”

Meanwhile, a clip of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz—a reported contender to be Harris’ running mate—calling Trump and Vance “weird people” on MSNBC had been viewed more than 4.8 million times on his X account as of Monday. Walz is credited with starting the trend, calling Republicans a “weird group of folks” as far back as August 2023.
Republicans have responded to the “weird” line. Yesterday, former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy described the “weird” attack from Democrats as “dumb and juvenile,” while Florida Representative Matt Gaetz wrote “the party of gender blockers and drag shows for kids is calling us weird? Ok.”
On Sunday, Vance said being called weird “doesn’t hurt my feelings.”
The attack has also generated several viral memes, including from user @mikescollins, a writer for Late Night With Seth Meyers, who wrote, “Stop calling us weird!!” alongside a screenshot of conservative former Fox News host Tucker Carlson during a 2022 segment of his show where he criticized “woke” Mars for removing the “sexy boots” from its cartoon green M&M; Carlson said it was a bid by the confectionary firm to make all characters “deeply unappealing and totally androgynous.” The meme had been viewed more than 1.1 million times by Tuesday.
Users @Kaylan_TX_, a self-described “former Republican,” and @Logically_JC, a frequent Trump critic, posted similar memes. “Stop calling us weird!” they both wrote, alongside an image of a man bowing before a gold statue of Trump. Another showed several Trump supporters wearing fake bandages in solidarity with the Republican candidate after he was shot in the ear in an attempt on his life. The posts were viewed more than 1.2 million and 901,000 times respectively by Tuesday.
