Man Finds Abandoned Suitcase Submerged in Creek, Decides to Open It

A man who found a muddy suitcase in a creek near his home decided to open it and was surprised by what he discovered inside.

Marcel, who lives in Texas, was exploring the local area when he stumbled across the suitcase, which was full of random items—including underwear, a Halloween mask, a disc and a pill bottle.

Under the username /u/the_orange_alligator, Marcel shared his discovery on Reddit, showcasing the condition in which he found the suitcase and the series of mismatched items he found inside. The post has received 28,000 upvotes and more than 5,000 comments.

He told Newsweek: “[I] was honestly just surprised. The first thing I saw when opening it was the Halloween mask, and that caught me off guard.

“I think after that I was just relieved I didn’t find a body or something like that. I decided to look around for more stuff, and I found a second case with just a laptop and some fabric in it, along with what I think used to be a tent.

“I didn’t have the guts to look in it. I came back a few days later to try to find the case again, but since it was in the middle of a lot of trees and brush, I couldn’t spot it. I do wish to try to find it again.”

In the post’s comments section, he added, “My hand brushed up against the fabric of the mask when I was opening it and I felt like I wanted to shrivel up and blow away.”

While the mystery of where this suitcase came from and why it was dumped remains unsolved, Reddit users shared their theories.

“Could legitimately be part of an art installation. But I have questions,” one wrote.

Another added: “Probably stolen stuff. But I was first like. At least it isn’t a dead body or parts of a dead body.”

“That doesn’t look too serious not like a crime scene or anything, other than the fact it has a weed bowl that’s an almost to the T standard tweaker survival pack it’s really just missing some dildos, icy hot and porn (I’ve found almost this exact same variety of masks, media, scrap, panties, paraphernalia and multimeter/tools stashed places in CA, CO, NM, TN, AND WA,” a commenter wrote.

Another joked: “Someone was using that old suitcase to clean up trash in the area. They had to go home for dinner and planned to come back and work some more. But now you’ve re-released all the trash back into the wild. Just because you’re nosy, they’ve gotta start all over again.”
