Dhanbad School Principal ‘Forces’ 80 Girl Students To Remove Their Shirts, Probe Begins Over Parents’ Complaint

Jharkhand News: The principal of a private school in Digwadih in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district allegedly instructed 80 female students of Class 10 to remove their shirts for writing messages on them during a celebration of ‘pen day,’ an official said on Saturday. The students were reportedly sent home wearing only their blazers, without shirts underneath, prompting an outcry from parents and an inquiry.

Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Madhvi Mishra confirmed the incident, stating that the alleged incident occurred on Friday in a prominent school under the Jorapokhar police station jurisdiction, news agency PTI reported. Parents of some of the students lodged complaints with the DC, expressing outrage at the principal’s actions.

According to the parents, the Class 10 students had been celebrating ‘pen day’ by writing messages on each other’s shirts after completing their examinations. When the principal, a woman, objected to the activity, the students apologised. Despite this, the principal allegedly demanded they remove their shirts and return home in their blazers.

“Several guardians lodged complaints against the principal. We also talked to some of the victim girls. The administration has taken the matter seriously. A committee has been set up to investigate the matter,” Deputy Commissioner Mishra said, as quoted by PTI.

The inquiry committee includes the sub-divisional magistrate, district education officer, district social welfare officer, and the sub-divisional police officer. The DC assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the probe.

Jharia MLA Ragini Singh, who accompanied the parents to the DC’s office on Saturday, described the incident as “shameful and unfortunate.”

The principal is yet to comment on the accusations. The administration’s probe is ongoing, and further action will be determined once the committee submits its report.
