In a major setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), seven MLAs have resigned. The seven sitting MLAs were excluded from the AAP’s candidates list for the 70 assembly constituencies in the national capital.
The seven MLAs who quit the party include: Bhavna Gaur from Palam seat, Naresh Yadav from Mehrauli, Rajesh Rishi from Janakpuri, Madan Lal from Kasturba Nagar, Rohit Mehrauliya from Trilokpuri, B.S. June from Bijwasan, and Pawan Sharma from Adarsh Nagar.
In the Palam seat, AAP had named Joginder Solanki from the seat, while sitting MLA Bhavna Gaur was excluded from the list. Similarly, in Mehrauli, the party named Mahender Chaudhary instead of Naresh Yadav from the seat.
Naresh Yadav, in his resignation letter, said that the Aam Aadmi Party is no longer what it was founded for and added that the party has drifted from its core ideology.
In a letter addressed to party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, he said, “I dedicated my entire life to politics and worked under your leadership with utmost honesty and dedication. I made every effort to realize your vision and also contributed 100% to fulfilling the responsibilities given to me. However, today, the party has drifted from its core ideology, and good people who want to work honestly are being sidelined, while those involved in corrupt practices are being given a place in the organization.”
“The Aam Aadmi Party is no longer what it was founded for. In such a situation, I no longer wish to be a part of the party. Hence, I resign from the primary membership of the party with immediate effect,” Yadav added.
In Janakpuri, AAP named Praveen Kumar over Rajesh Rishi from the seat. Meanwhile in Kasturba Nagar, the party didn’t name Madan Lal and named Ramesh Pahalwan from the seat. In the Trilokpuri seat, AAP had named Rohit Mehrauliya instead of sittling MLA Rohit Kumar. Similarly, B.S. Joon and Pawan Sharma were excluded from the Bijwasan and Adarsh nagar seats respecitively even as AAP named Surendra Bharadwaj and Mukesh Goel.
