Kejriwal’s ‘Kumbhakaran’ Jibe As AAP Accuses BJP, Amit Shah Of ‘Hooliganism’ Before Polls

Delhi Election 2025: Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday hit out at the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing it of inaction ahead of the crucial Delhi Assembly elections.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kejriwal drew a parallel with the Hindu epic Ramayana, stating, “In the Ramayana, it is written that Kumbhakaran slept for six months and then woke up for the next six months. The Election Commission probably never wakes up”. He added the hashtag #amitshahkigundagardi (Amit Shah’s hooliganism).

Kejriwal’s remarks came after multiple alleged attacks on his party. Kejriwal has written to the Delhi Chief Election Officer (CEO), urging immediate action regarding alleged attacks on AAP workers in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, news agency IANS reported.

AAP National Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar claimed that the BJP, fearing defeat in the upcoming elections, orchestrated violence against the party. She pointed to an incident on January 18 when stones were thrown at Kejriwal, with the police allegedly failing to arrest the accused, Rohit Tyagi and Shanky. Kakkar added, “These two have been accused of murder, but the police are ignoring it.”

In another escalation, members of the Maharashtra Valmiki Samaj and Dalit Mapanchayat attacked AAP’s election campaign van in protest against former CM Kejriwal, news agency ANI reported.

Kakkar blamed the BJP for the incident, stating, “The morale of BJP goons has increased so much that today they are openly attacking the AAP campaign van. The eyes of the Election Commission in Delhi are closed, they are not able to see any of the misdeeds of the BJP. Such hooliganism will not work in Delhi.”

The protestors broke the LED display on the AAP campaign vehicle, and Kakkar expressed concerns over the involvement of BJP goons in these attacks. AAP leader Jasmine Shah also condemned the violence, saying, “BJP’s goons attacked and vandalised the AAP campaign van in the New Delhi constituency. The two BJP goons, Rohit Tyagi and Shanky, who can be seen in the video attacking, are the same ones who had thrown stones at Arvind Kejriwal’s car. You can clearly see in the video that the BJP goons carried out the attack in the presence of the police, and once the vandalism was done, the police officer told the goons, ‘Now go, your work is done.’”

BJP Workers Attacked AAP Workers, Snatching Away Pamphlets In Govindpuri: CM Atishi

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi also shared a video on X alleging that BJP workers attacked AAP members, writing, “The extent of hooliganism in Delhi has reached its peak. In a state of panic over the prospect of losing the elections, BJP workers are now indulging in hooliganism in every street. Watch this video where BJP workers are seen physically attacking AAP workers and snatching away their pamphlets in Govindpuri.”

As the February 5 polling date for Delhi’s 70-member Assembly draws near, a fierce contest is unfolding between AAP, BJP, and Congress, with high-decibel campaigning intensifying. The votes will be counted on February 8.
