Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

While January started slow for video games, February will have some of 2025’s biggest games releasing weeks apart. Unlike last month, which picked up steam towards the end with surprise releases like Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and Xbox Game Pass additions, this month will see heavy hitters arrive on store shelves early.

These are the most anticipated video games releasing in February 2025.

Fans have been waiting almost seven years for this sequel. KCD 2 will continue the story of Henry of Skalitz. The sequel picks up directly where the first one left off, featuring a bigger, and more realistic medieval open world. The first-person RPG will test your skills on the battlefield and outside it, as it’s an adventure you won’t forget anytime soon. Check out our review of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, which we call Warhorse Studios’ The Witcher 3 moment.

Sid Meier’s Civilization is an iconic series for PC gamers, and even with a seventh entry on the way, the franchise continues to innovate. Civ 7 will let players mix and match leaders from different eras, and the game is now played across three ages. The new title will give more options to veterans while keeping it accessible to newcomers. New unit types are also being introduced, as well as improved narrative events. Firaxis Games will keep supporting Civ 7 with post-launch DLC and updates. Check out our review of Civilization 7, in which we say that the latest sequel will “force longtime players to come out of their comfort zone.”

Tomb Raider 4–6 Remastered

The classic Tomb Raider games are getting a makeover. The new collection will feature an enhanced version of the games that make up “The Darkness trilogy” for Lara Croft. The remastered version will include previously deleted content and modern features like a photo mode, along with more features to make it playable for younger players.

Obsidian Entertainment is releasing two major RPGs in 2025, and excitement for its first one, Avowed, is at an all-time high. The game is set in the same universe as the Pillars of Eternity games, but this time as a first-person RPG. It looks like it will be to Skyrim what The Outer Worlds was to Fallout. Players will be able to switch between different magic and melee-based builds on the fly while exploring the Living Lands.

Avowed releases on February 18, 2025, on PC and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be available on day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Goro Majima is back with his own spinoff! Like Ichiban in Infinite Wealth, Majima wakes up on an island’s beach with no memory of how he got there. The amnesiac Majima will find himself stuck between the quarrels of modern-day pirates. Players will also be able to commander a large ship out in the ocean, and the game also has a naval battle system similar to Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Blag. The upcoming game will bridge the gap between Infinite Wealth and the next mainline Yakuza game.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii releases on February 21, 2025, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
