A day ahead of the Delhi Assembly Elections, the Haryana Police on Tuesday booked AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal over his statements regarding the alleged poisoning of the Yamuna river.

An FIR was filed against the AAP leader in Kurukshetra based on a complaint filed by Shahbad resident Jagmohan Manchanda.

Kejriwal and others have been booked under Sections 192, 196(1), 197(1), 248(a), and 299 of the BNS Act for the AAP leader’s claim that the BJP-led government in Haryana “poisoned” the Yamuna’s waters, according to the Indian Express.

The FIR comes days after the Haryana government this week filed a criminal complaint against him by the Haryana government. Haryana Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Vipul Goel confirmed that a case has been registered against Kejriwal in a Sonipat court under the Disaster Management Act.
