The New York Mets are re-signing Pete Alonso to a two-year contract that calls for him to make $30 million in 2025 and includes an opt-out after the first year. He’ll make $54 million over the two years if he does not exercise the opt-out clause.
Andy Martino of SNY was the first to report that Alonso was headed back to Queens. Jeff Passan of ESPN was first to report the $30 million salary in Year 1 of the deal. Jon Heyman of the New York Post was first to report the $54 million total outlay.
According to Heyman, Alonso had the choice of a three-year deal or a two-year deal, and opted for the two-year deal.
The first baseman had lingered in free agency longer than expected, and seemed destined to lead him away from New York after he rejected the Mets’ offer of a three-year contract in the $68-70 million range.
