A digital tracker calling itself the DOGE clock has gained attention as it says it aims to monitor the amount of money “taxpayers dollars saved” by the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The clock, created by the Department of Government Efficiency Community Meme Project—which is not affiliated with DOGE—has already recorded what is calls savings of over $32 billion.
What Does the DOGE Clock Track?
The DOGE clock website says that its tool measures in real time the amount of taxpayers dollars that will be saved by changes being put forth by the Department of Government Efficiency.
It includes the number of total initiatives DOGE has proposed thus far, total savings, individual taxpayer dollars saved and has a countdown of the days remaining until July 4, 2026. The days remaining module could be a countdown toward the organization’s stated $2 trillion goal, but Newsweek was unable to confirm this.

Why It Matters
DOGE has been one of the major focal points of President Trump’s second administration.
It was created via executive order under former President Donald Trump and is currently overseen by Musk, the world’s richest man and a top donor and influential adviser to the president.
The organization has been tasked by Trump to cut federal spending and has aggressively made recommendations and proposed initiatives to that end since the president has taken office.
What To Know
The DOGE clock is not directly affiliated with the organization, but appears to align with broader efforts to track government spending. The website says that the data is “not official.”
The website says it is a “community-driven meme project designed to raise awareness of government spending and over-regulation” and “The token is intended solely for educational and entertainment purposes.”
What Are Some Actions DOGE Plans to Take to Cut Costs?
DOGE has already targeted governmental departments that it deems redundant, including the Department of Education and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
As previously reported by Newsweek, Musk aims to reduce inefficiencies and redirect the funds from both areas back to the federal government for more effective use.
In January, DOGE announced interest in canceling 85 DEI contracts at over federal agencies, amounting to about $1 billion. A $45 million scholarship program for students in Burma would be cut, too.
DOGE has suggested cutting 12 contracts in the Government Services Administration and the Department of Education, saving roughly $30 million, as well as cutting 12 underutilized leases, saving about $3 million.

What Happens Next
The DOGE clock is expected to continue tracking frequent financial changes due to the policy proposals and initiatives put forth by the organization.
