If latest reports are anything to go by, Bangladeshi actress Meher Afroz Shaon has been detained by Detective Branch of Bangladesh police. This comes after the fresh violent protest in the country, including attack on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence. Reportedly, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s home was set on fire by the violent protestors. Meher Arfroz Shaon’s ancestral home in Jamalpur was also set on fire, reports suggest.
As reported by news agency ANI, Meher Afroz Shaon was detained by the police for questioning. A quote by Rezaul Karim Mollick, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police shared by the news agency read, “After receiving some information, we have detained Meher Afroz Shaon for questioning.” He also revealed that no decision over her arrest has been taken as yet and the investigation is still underway. She has been taken in for questioning for allegedly conspiring against the state, say reports.
Who is Meher Afroz Shaon?
She is a Bangladeshi actor who has featured in films like Dui Duari, Chandrokotha and many more. She has also featured in several TV serials. She is a singer and producer as well. Meher Afroz Shaon won Bangladesh National Film Award for best playback singer for movie Krihnopokkho. Apart from being an actress, she also holds Bachelor of Architecture degree.
Meher Afroz Shaon is the daughter of Engineer Mohammad Ali who had previously sought nomination in Awami League. Her mother also served as an Awami League MP, reported The Week. Meher Afroz Shaon is the wife of late writer and director Humayun Ahmed. He died in 2012. They have two sons – Nishad Humayun and Ninith Humayun. Reportedly, she has been pretty critical of the interim government in Bangladesh on social media. Reports also state that her close ties with Sheikh Hasina could also be the reason behind her detention. It appears to be a political amid all the unrest in the country but her detention has taken space in headlines.
