It’s not even Halloween, but Kelly Ripa’s costume is so transformative that the beloved talk show host looks unrecognizable.
On February 26, the longtime LIVE with Kelly and Mark host, 54, took to Instagram to show off her new look as Ariana Grande in Wicked, which is up for 10 Academy Awards this Sunday, March 2. The facial prosthetics were so on the mark that Ripa tricked her own husband and cohost, Mark Consuelos.

In Ripa’s Instagram video, her hair and makeup team, Kristofer Buckle and Ryan Trygstad, apply prosthetics to give Ripa Grande’s signature cheek bones, dimples and heart-shaped mouth. The soundtrack to the video is Grande’s mega-hit “Popular” from Wicked.
Ripa’s stunt was pre-taped for her and Consuelos’ “After the Oscars” special, which will air Monday, March 3. Even Consuelos’ dressing up as Wicked‘s Prince Fiyero — and knowing that his wife was dressing up as Grande’s Galinda — didn’t prevent him from being tricked when Ripa told him that she wanted him to FaceTime with Grande, 31, before filming the segment.
“I was like, ‘What!? I’m not prepared for this,” Consuelos told People on Tuesday, February 26. “And she completely fooled me because when I grabbed the phone, I truly thought that was Grande.”
Ripa also tricked her daughter, Lola, and her best friend.
“It was freaky,” said Consuelos.
In addition to being up for two of Sunday’s biggest Oscar awards — Best Picture and Actress in a Leading Role (Cynthia Erivo) — Wicked earned Grande a Best Supporting Actress nod. The blockbuster is also up for Costume Design, Film Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Sound, Production Design and Visual Effects.
Ripa and Consuelos’ LIVE special will air from the Dolby Theatre the morning after the Oscars and will include backstage interviews with some of the night’s biggest winners. There will also be segments filmed pre-show on the red carpet, with actor Jerry O’Connell doing the honors.
