A strong earthquake of 6.1 magnitude hit Nepal’s Kathmandu early Friday morning. The earthquake was felt in and around the Kathmandu valley. There has been no immediate report of any damage or casualty from the earthquake. Tremors were also felt in Patna and other regions in Bihar.

People in Patna shared videos on social media showing ceiling fans and rooms shaking due to the earthquake. An X user said that the tremors lasted for a “good 35 seconds”.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale was recorded at 2:51 AM along Kodari Highway in Sindhupalchowk district, 65 km east of Kathmandu.

The National Centre for Seismology in India, however, estimated it at 5.5 at 2:36 AM.

Nepal lies in one of the most active tectonic zones (Seismic zones IV and V), making it extremely vulnerable to earthquakes.
