Drew McIntyre Reveals Brutal Details on ‘Bleeding Out’ During CM Punk Match

It’s hard to think of a better feud in recent memory than CM Punk and Drew McIntyre.

Carried mostly by excellent promos and genuine emotion, the rivalry eventually culminated in a fantastic Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood 2024 that exemplified everything fans that makes pro wrestling fantastic.

Now, McIntyre has spoken out on some of the more gory details of the brutal brawl.

During an appearance on Untapped, McIntyre went into details about his very real rivalry with CM Punk and how that helped

“We spent a year where, most of it, he was injured, and I was on the microphone just shredding him nonstop,” McIntyre said. “It built this incredible storyline that culminated in a Hell in a Cell match.”

“I got hit in the head during the match, and I got 16 staples across the top of my head. Again, yeah, that was very real. I got hit by a toolbox, and right away, I saw the blood spurt across the ring within the first seven, eight minutes of the match. We’ve been building this story for a year, this was the culmination of this giant, and I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m bleeding out. And the lights are getting very bright right now.'”

“But that’s one of those moments you just gotta suck it up, and considering the story we told, the blood feud we were having, it was actually perfect. And we have our doctors on site to ensure that I’m okay, our referee’s communicating with the people in the back, they’re relaying messages from me to say, ‘I’m okay.'”

“But for the viewers in the arena, the viewers at home, it was the violence required within the confines of that story to settle this yearlong tale.”

McIntyre has proven time and time again that he is one of if not the best Superstar on the WWE roster, consistently delivering excellent promos and matches, especially with the likes of Sheamus, Gunther, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins.

During his tenure in WWE, McIntyre has earned the WWE Championship twice, the World Heavyweight Championship once, the NXT Championship once, and the Intercontinental Championship once.

McIntyre has won the Men’s Royal Rumble in 2020, the Men’s Elimination Chamber Match in 2021 and 2024, and the Money in the Bank Ladder Match in 2024.
