Videos of Eric Trump‘s Tuesday afternoon speech are circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter, alleging that he believes that his father, the former president, will win his criminal hush money case because “we’re white.” Other accounts claim he said, “we’re right.”
On Tuesday, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and his wife and Republican National Convention co-chair Lara Trump, spoke outside the courtroom after Donald Trump’s trial in New York concluded closing arguments.
The high-profile case is the first time in U.S. history that a former president has stood trial in a criminal case. Following an investigation by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg‘s office, Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, was indicted in March 2023 on 34 counts of falsifying business records.
He was accused of attempting to conceal hush money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels by Trump’s then lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Daniels had alleged she had an affair with Trump in 2016, which he has denied. The former president has pleaded not guilty to all charges and said the case against him is politically motivated.
In his speech, Eric Trump reiterated the Trump family’s stance, as well as that of many GOP leaders, that the proceedings are a “sham trial,” and that “the entire country knows that this is nonsense, they don’t buy it.”
Near the end of his speech, Eric Trump said, “I cannot wait for the day that we win, we will,” followed by the debated phrase of either “we’re white,” which many X users are calling a Freudian slip, or “we’re right.” He later added, “I think we’re gonna prevail.”
Newsweek reached out to Eric Trump via email for comment on Wednesday.

The video of the speech is available on C-SPAN, which appears to show Eric Trump saying, “we’re right,” but the sentence does not appear in the transcript.
Trump’s Fever Dream, a political, science fiction, satire blog that frequently criticizes the former president, posted a video on X Wednesday that slowed down Eric Trump’s speech to make the case that he is “we’re white.” His caption reads: “Eric Trump says the quiet part out loud at Trump trial today. ‘We’re white’ Daddy’s gonna be p*****.”
Ron Filipkowski, a criminal defense attorney and editor-in-chief of MeidasTouch Network, a liberal news site, posted a video of Eric Trump’s speech on X, with the caption: “Did Eric just say he’s confident they are going to win because they’re white.” His post has been shared more than 5,000 times.
Randy Bryce, a veteran and former Democratic Party candidate, reposted the video, with the caption: “Eric Trump is assured they’ll win because ‘we’re white.'”
Attorney and writer, Amee Vanderpool also reposted the video on X, describing Eric Trump’s comments with the word “yikes.”
Several other users have commented in various posts insisting that he said, “we’re right” and that the situation is becoming racially charged for no reason, such as @Abruce13Walker, who commented on Filipkowski’s video saying, “OH STOP……He said, ‘we’re right.'”
X user Snarkzilla, also replied to Filipkowski’s video saying, “I believe he said, ‘we’re right.’ I hate that family, but I really think he says right.”
Another user, Dane Garcia replied to Bryce’s post, “We are right.”
The hush money trial jury began deliberations around midday on Wednesday after they received instructions from presiding Judge Juan Merchan.
