It’s a late-season matchup between two teams right on the NHL Playoffs cusp, as the New York Rangers (33-31-6, 72 points) play host to the Vancouver Canucks (32-25-12, 76 points) in an inter-conference tilt.

The Canucks come in today’s game just one point outside the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference after dropping a game against the St. Louis Blues, who hopped them in the standings with the win. Vancouver trailed 3-2 before Brock Boeser lit the lamp with just four seconds remaining in the third period to send the game to overtime. Ultimately, Philip Broberg of the Blues would end the game with a goal at 3:42 of the overtime period.
The Rangers find themselves in a similar situation, just two points out of the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference, tied with the New York Islanders. The Rangers looked to be heading in the right direction before a three-game losing streak saw them slip out of the playoff picture. Their last game was a 4-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, in a game that saw Artemi Panarin score his team-leading 31st goal of the season in the second period.
The Canucks and Rangers played earlier in the season in Vancouver, with the Rangers taking home a 4-3 victory.
