Two men have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad on Saturday for allegedly killing a woman by slitting her throat.

As per a senior police official, the accused were identified as Mohit Saini and Omkar Sharma. Both of them had been on a run since December 25 when the body of the woman, named Anjali, was found in a forest area.

During the interrogation, Mohit told the police that when he got convinced that Anjali was cheating on him, he decided to kill her. He added that after watching web series Mirzapur, he decided to kill the woman by slitting her throat.

As per the information provided by the police, Mohit is a B.Com 1st year student and a football player, and he had been in a live-in relationship with Anjali for the last two years.

“A football player killed his girlfriend, who, he found out, was married to someone else. He dumped the body in a forest area and fled with his friend, who helped him in the crime,” a senior cop said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural Kunwar Akash Singh added that the accused confessed of committing the murder after watching the famous web series Mirzapur and then decided to slit his girlfriend’s throat.

During cross-questioning, the accused Mohit Saini told the police officials that Anjali came to live as a tenant at his house with her husband, Saddam, two years ago. He added, “Anjali’s husband worked in a hotel in Delhi and would not come home for months. This was when Anjali and I came close to each other and entered a relationship. However, recently she started talking to her husband.” The poice said that Mohit told them that he tried to convince Anjali not to talk to her husband, however, when Anjali did not stop speaking to her husband, the accused Mohit, in frustration, decided to kill her. Later, he decided that after killing Anjali, he would marry another girl with his family’s consent.

Currently, both the accused have been sent to jail and further investigation in the matter is underway, police said
