Juan Soto left Thursday’s New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins game in the top of the sixth inning with what the team called “left forearm discomfort.”

The game entered a 56-minute rain delay after five innings, and when it restarted, Soto was not in the ballgame. He was replaced by Alex Verdugo in the lineup.
Yankees fans collectively held their breath for the next hour or so, but finally, when the game ended in an 8-5 Yankees win, manager Aaron Boone was able to speak to reporters and provide an update on his injured superstar.

Boone said that Soto’s forearm has been bothering him for the last week and he’s been receiving treatment on it. During the rain delay, he was examined by the team’s medical staff, and they elected to proceed with caution and remove him from the game.
“It’s just been something that’s been bothering him for about the last week or so,” Boone said. “Been getting treatment on it. Hasn’t really affected him in his baseball stuff, throwing or swinging or anything. But just once we shut down and the rain delay, that soreness was there, so just, kind of, didn’t feel like it was the right thing to go back out there.”

Boone was then asked if there was a specific play or moment that caused the injury to flare up.
“No, no,” Boone said. “It’s just been something that’s been, kind of, bothering him.”
So, what’s next?
“We’ll get imaging (Friday),” Boone said, “just to see what we have.”
Soto is in the midst of an MVP-caliber season, slashing .318/.424/.603 with 17 home runs, 53 RBIs, 46 walks, and a 1.027 OPS. He has accumulated 4.0 fWAR, which is tied for second in all of MLB, and trails only his teammate, Aaron Judge.
Soto was acquired in the offseason via a trade with the San Diego Padres and has been a perfect fit in New York. He’s made it known how much he loves playing for the Yankees, which is big news considering he’s set to enter free agency at the end of this season.

The Yankees will hope for the best regarding Soto as they get set for a big series this weekend. The Yankees are welcoming Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers into town for a highly-anticipated three-game series that could potentially be a World Series preview.
Will the Yankees have Soto for this star-studded matchup.
That remains to be seen.
