Karnataka Police Summon BJP Chief Nadda, Amit Malviya Over Party’s Controversial Tweet

Karnataka Police on Wednesday summoned BJP National President JP Nadda and party leader Amit Malviya before Bengaluru’s High Grounds Police Station within 7 days in connection with a tweet posted by BJP Karnataka allegedly against SC/ST community.

The notice stated that a first information report (FIR) had been registered at the High Grounds Police station in Bengaluru in connection with the post and the two leaders were named in it.

It further directed them to appear before the investigation officer at 11:00 am at High Grounds Police Station within 7 days.

The statement comes a day after Election Commission directed social media platform ‘X’ to immediately take down a post shared by the Karnataka unit of the BJP.

The EC said the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka registered an FIR in this connection and wrote to ‘X’ on May 5 to take down the objectionable post as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act and the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021.

However, the post has not been taken down yet. Therefore, ‘X’ is directed to take down the post immediately, the EC said.
