As the nation braces for the presidential election, Kim Kardashian stirred up social media by wishing Ivanka Trump a happy 43rd birthday.
On Wednesday, October 30, the 44-year-old SKIMS founder posted a selfie with the former first daughter on Instagram. “No one sweeter than you @ivankatrump. Happy Birthday ♡♡♡,” she gushed. Kardashian shared snapshots of the pair smiling in black and metallic gowns.

The timing of the post, coming less than a week before the U.S. chooses its next leader, churned up a sea of mixed reactions online.
“kim k posting this a week before the biggest election in history is a deliberate choice and i’m not saying i expected anything more from her or her family but wow!!” one person posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“Sweetness must run in the family! Happy Birthday, Ivanka! 🎉✨,” gushed another.
“Sorry, but I don’t care if they’ve known each other since preschool—she should’ve thought about how this would look so close to the election. It’s really not a good look,” pointed out a third.
“Why are yall surprised lol. They’ve known each other for decades 😭😭😭,” another chimed in.
Last year, an insider revealed to US Weekly that “Kim and Ivanka have been friends for years and have hung out on a number of occasions. They initially bonded nearly a decade ago at the Met Gala over motherhood and being new moms. But they continued to connect numerous times over the years.”
While the Keeping Up With the Kardashians icon has stayed tight-lipped about who’s getting her vote, she hasn’t shied away from political causes. In 2018, she famously met with then-President Trump to discuss prison reform, helping secure clemency for Alice Marie Johnson, who had been serving a life sentence. Two years later, she was back at the White House, advocating to reduce sentences for three women in similar situations.
Since then, the reality TV star’s balanced her advocacy with privacy around her political views. After the 2020 election, she showed subtle support for President Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, by posting three blue hearts on social media. More recently, she joined Vice President Harris for a roundtable on criminal justice reform, and said, “I’m so honored to be here to continue this fight.”
Election Day in the U.S. is Tuesday, November 5.
