After months of seeing two dogs defend their home on his daily walk, Andrew Anderson finally snapped a picture and shared what “roof doodles” run his block.
Anderson of Memphis, Tennessee, told Newsweek that about five or six months ago he started noticing one of his neighbor’s dogs barking at him while he passed the house on his walk. Dogs often bark to protect their homes, but this wasn’t what surprised him. It was where the two dogs went to perform their guard duties: the roof.
“I’ll either see them on the roof barking at me and my dog Ralph and sometimes my wife,” he said. “Or sometimes they’re in the house barking and banging on the front window.”
Anderson added that he feels the dogs might break the window one day from how hard they’re pressing against the glass with their paws and noses. But noting how every poodle mix he’s pet has been “equally as rambunctious,” he isn’t surprised these dogs have started this behavior.
His back usually faces this house when walking past, but he can’t help but look and acknowledge the “roof doodles” every time. They’re too goofy not to look at. Plus, he added, he probably deserves the barks for coming near their territory.
He finally decided to snap a quick picture of this hilarious encounter and posted it on X, formerly Twitter on February 3 to his account @Dub__A. Within days it reached over 1.4 million views and 71,000 likes.

It doesn’t matter what time of day it is or who he is with because, right on cue, the two dogs will start barking at the sight of him. He doesn’t know the neighbors and has never seen anyone at the house.
Anderson is unsure how the dogs get on the roof but said they seem like experts. He suspects the roof they climb on covers a porch and likely has stairs or a ladder leading up to it.
His dog on the other hand has been “pretty nonreactive” to these canines, which has surprised him. He said that Ralph usually “locks in” when seeing another dog on their walks, but when it comes to the roof doodles, he doesn’t mess with them.
