A millennial dad was left bewildered by how different teenage parties are today compared to his own high school years.
Kameron Johnson, 40, posted a clip on TikTok (@realkcfunny) with a dilemma for other parents of teenage girls.
He had overheard a conversation between his 16-year-old daughter and her friend about an upcoming party on Saturday night. Immediately, he was taken back to his youth, filling his refrigerator top to bottom with Smirnoff Ice in preparation for a party in the woods.
But her plans couldn’t be more different from her father’s previous antics. She informed her friend that she’d be bringing a vegan, gluten-free charcuterie board along to the party. She also ensured her dad that the group wouldn’t be doing “anything crazy” like getting out a Ouija board.

“Don’t get me wrong… I’m grateful that my daughter is being safe and making good decisions, but her kids are gonna [sic] think that her stories are boring as s***. They’re gonna hear grandpa’s stories and then think, holy s***, this guy’s a psychopath,” he said in the clip.
While Johnson is relieved that his daughter isn’t going off to binge drink in the woods like he did at her age, he does wonder whether millennials might be the last generation with truly wild party stories.
“When your kid [has] the time to actually experiment and make mistakes before they have consequences that follow you around for the rest of your life, which, I guess with social media and camera phones that’s a luxury that kids don’t have, I do worry that we’ve raised the generation that is so averse to taking risks that we won’t see progression like we did with my generation.”
Beyond the party culture, Johnson also shared the broader challenges of raising kids in the digital age.
“Being a parent in 2025 is hard because thanks to the internet and social media and AI figuring out what is actual knowledge and wisdom versus something that someone made up to get views is really hard,” he said.
Johnson’s clip has racked up 1.5 million views and counting since it was posted on March 12.
Based on the thousands of comments from other parents, it turns out he may not be alone in his revelation.
“My 17 year old son goes out for coffee, lunch or dinner with his friends. I raised a middle aged woman,” one user wrote.
“Gen X being so disappointed with their boring children,” another laughed.
A third commenter wrote: “No good story starts with hold my vegan gluten-free charcuterie board.”
Johnson said that many parents echoed his observations on today’s generation. “The reaction for the most part has been exactly what the video says, that their kids are just chill now and don’t really feel the need to go out and be overly social or party or do anything crazy,” he said.
At the end of the day, the dad of two was left on the fence about whether he’d invite his daughter or any of his friends to a party that he had in high school. “At minimum, we are breaking out a Ouija board,” he concluded the clip.
