Sony is reportedly working on an AI-powered PlayStation character named Aloy, but a video reportedly showing the development of the prototype was taken down from YouTube, per tech outlet The Verge.

The video was narrated by a senior official working on AI at Sony, and showed off the AI-powered Aloy as well as the ability for the character to converse with humans. This is not likely to make its way to users soon, and was developed for internal demonstrations, noted the outlet. The video was pulled down citing copyright issues, per YouTube.

The models used for the AI-powered Aloy character were OpenAI’s Whisper, GPT-4, and Llama 3.

The use of generative AI in the video game industry is a thorny issue, with those for it hailing lower costs and development efforts. However, artists and developers are worried that AI-powered games are already costing them jobs across the industry.
