Bollywood movies are incomplete without songs. But imagine a film that has 29 songs packed in 3-hour long story? The movie that we are talking about had two of the biggest names from the film industry. A lot of money was put in into making of this film. But neither the star power nor the money, could save this movie from tanking at the box office. It did not even receive critical acclaim.
This Bollywood film released in 2017. It was directed by a top filmmaker and male lead of the film had risked money by being the producer of this film.
Yes, the movie is Jagga Jasoos. It starred Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor as the leads. The film was much-talked-about as it was the last film Katrina and Ranbir did together. It was during this film that they went through a breakup. The movie was directed by Anurag Basu.
Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor’s combination worked wonders for the movie Barfi! However, they could not recreate the same magic for Jagga Jasoos. Katrina plays the role of a journalist who helps Ranbir Kapoor’s character find his father. Govinda was also supposed to be a part of this film. He even shot for a few scenes. However, his scenes were chopped off. Ranbir in an interview had addressed the controversy saying, “It is very irresponsible, and very unfair to cast a great legend like Govinda and not do justice to his role. We are apologetic, but it is the best thing for the film so we had to cut that track out.”

After all the delays, controversies and debacles, the movie released in the theatres. Much to the dismay of the makers, it received a very lukewarm response. It couldn’t even recover its production cost with box office. Reportedly, the movie made only Rs 52 crore while its production cost was more than Rs 100 crore.
