BMC News: Mumbaikars may soon have to pay a “user-fee tax”. The proposal will be tabled in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Budget presentation on Tuesday. A fee of Rs 50 will be levied on every family and Rs 100 per month on every business.
The fee will be levied for the form of cleanliness and solid waste management. This fee will give the BMC an additional revenue of Rs 600 to Rs 700 crore annually.
The BMC Commissioner’s announcement in his Budget speech is likely to face protests from the Opposition.
Keeping in mind the upcoming municipal elections, there is a possibility of opposition from political parties. According to the TOI, the 2024-25 Budget for the BMC was Rs 59,954.75 crore, a 10.5% increase from the previous fiscal year.
