The Los Angeles Dodgers have already shocked the baseball world once this offseason when they signed two-time Cy Young award winner Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million deal with $66 million in deferrals.
Snell was one of the best free agents on the market, and is now fortifying a Los Angeles rotation that’s also expected to get Shohei Ohtani back as a pitcher in 2025.
While the Dodgers remain linked to Juan Soto, it doesn’t seem likely they spend another potential $700 million to bring the superstar outfielder to L.A. However, they may have another blockbuster move up their sleeve.
Over the weekend, eight-time All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado sent the baseball world into a frenzy when he posted a series of photos on Instagram with the song “dodger blue” by Kendrick Lamar attached to it.
While Arenado could have just been a fan of the new Lamar song, the fact that the series of photos was him in Los Angeles-based areas only added fuel to the fire. Then, Randy Miller of NJ.com only added more fuel with his report on WFAN Radio.
“One guy that could be a possibility [for the Yankees] is Arenado from St. Louis,” Miller said on WFAN Radio. “I think the Cardinals are trying to trade him, St. Louis would have to pick up some of the money and maybe the Yankees could have a deal where they trade some prospects. … I keep hearing it’s going to be either the Yankees or the Dodgers — I think he’s a West Coast guy that would prefer to go to the Dodgers and I think the Dodgers want him.”

On Monday, Dodgers fan favorite Kiké Hernández — currently a free agent — decided to stir the pot even more. On a new Arenado Instagram post of him working on fielding drills, Hernández commented, “NO SONG FOR THE POST?!!”
Hernández, himself, is a free agent and has expressed a desire to return to Los Angeles.
“I would love to be back,” Hernández said at an early November event, via dodgersnation.com. “I truly believe that — we won the World Series a couple days ago — but I truly believe that this team is gonna be even better next year with all the pitching reinforcements.”
The Dodgers did, in fact, add some pitching reinforcements in Snell, and now could add a hitting reinforcement in the form of Arenado.
Arenado, 33, is a five-time Silver Slugger and 10-time Gold Glove winner. He hit .272 with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs in 2024. From 2015-23, he made eight All-Star teams as a member of the Colorado Rockies and Cardinals.
Arenado was born in Newport Beach and grew up in Orange County.
