Former NFL Quarterback Robbed Dodgers Star From Easy Out in Tokyo Series Game

With the MLB season kicking off with two games taking place in Japan, the league is gaining traction as a primary focus for sports fans.

The opening games for the season have never started this early, and the fact the games are in Japan is a new wrinkle that should help bring more global interest to the league.

However, despite the NFL season being long over and the offseason winding down, the league is once again stealing the public’s eye.

In a 6-3 Los Angeles Dodgers victory over the Chicago Cubs in the second game of a two-game series in Tokyo to open the season, former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete casually robbed Dodgers infielder Max Muncy from catching a foul ball.

Seeing a former NFL quarterback with a glove catching a foul ball at an MLB game in Japan is definitely a funny site for NFL fans watching an MLB game.

Peete played 14 seasons in the NFL with multiple teams. He started his career back in 1989 with the Detroit Lions after being selected in the sixth round.

He played five seasons for the team before moving to the Cowboys for a season, before switching to the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles for four seasons.

He then played a season for the then-Washington Redskins in 1999, before making a return to the NFL in 2002 for three seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

With how smooth and natural the catch appears in the highlight, it isn’t shocking that the person performing the maneuver is a former athlete.

What is surprising, however, is that a former athlete brought a baseball glove to an MLB game.

While Peete was a good NFL player, he isn’t a Hall of Famer and is more well-renowned as a college player.

He played four seasons for USC, where he improved steadily each season. His best season was easily his senior season, where he finished second in Heisman voting to running back Barry Sanders, one of the most electric NFL players of all time.

Peete is a California sports legend, being inducted into the California Sports Hall of Fame just last year, along with being in the USC Athletic Hall of Fame, where he was inducted back in 2009.

While Rodney Peete isn’t a household name, especially to newer NFL fans, he is still a fun person to see on TV appearing like a normal fan at an MLB game.

The odds of the ball falling directly to him are extremely low, making the moment even more fascinating.
