It’s a big anniversary year for EA’s iconic The Sims franchise and developer Maxis has another free goodie up its sleeve to celebrate the occasion. An upcoming update to the game available to all owners of The Sims 4 – regardless of DLC ownership – will add the series’ iconic burglar to the current iteration. This update will land on March 6, 2025, alongside the next expansion, Business & Hobbies.

The Sims 4’s burglar is called Robin Banks and will show up during the night, when your Sims are happily sleeping. She’ll sneak into their home and grab any valuables she can find before quickly disappearing into the darkness once more.

Naturally, your Sims will have the opportunity to call the police before the thief completes her escape. If you react quickly enough, Banks will be arrested and you’ll keep your valuables. A returning piece of furniture, the Burglar Alarm, will help you deal with the criminal as well. The Alarm can even be upgraded to automatically call the police, give the burglar an electro shock, or force her to drop some of her loot while escaping. Your Sims can also heroically try and stop Banks themselves with some good, old fisticuffs.

Owners of specific The Sims 4 expansions are getting extra interactions with the burglar, too.

The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs allows your canine companion to chase the burglar away, while the werewolves from The Sims 4 Werewolves can scare her away outright — fair enough.

The Sims 4 Realm of Magic paves the way to several solutions thanks to the power of spells and The Sims 4 Discover University allows your Sims to program their servos to defend their home. Scientists from The Sims 4 Get to Work can use the Freeze Ray to stun Banks, making the subsequent handover to the police very simple. Finally, bloodsuckers from The Sims 4 Vampires can simply charm the burglar into leaving — after taking a quick sip from her, of course.

While heists will be a rare thing – Maxis doesn’t want them to get old fast, after all – the new Lot Challenge “Heist Havoc” increases their frequency and even adds in false alarms to conjure up additional chaos.

Crucially for some players, you can even befriend Robin Banks and add her to your household, in which case a different burglar will take her place in the world.
