We have reached the final full week of the college football season, giving teams one last chance to make their claims for the College Football Playoff. Not every team will be given a chance to play in a conference championship game, meaning that the matchups this week are extra important.
There are a few great contests on the slate for this weekend but which are the top must-watch ones? Luckily, Newsweek Sports has you covered.
Here are the top five must-watch games from this weekend’s schedule.
5. No. 3 Texas @ No. 20 Texas A&M
The Longhorns are likely a lock for the College Football Playoff but a tough road test awaits them in College Station. The Aggies have been a strange team this year but if they can take down a top-five squad, it could help their resume.
College Station will be rocking and the Aggies could find themselves with a chance to kick open the door for a potential playoff spot with a victory.
4. No. 16 Arizona State @ Arizona
The Sun Devils pretty much have a path to the College Football Playoff but they’ll need to get past the rival Wildcards. Despite a down year from Arizona, causing some havoc to their inter-state rivals would be a cherry on top.
Arizona State has been among the better surprises this season but they will need to show they can finish the job.
3. Auburn @ No. 13 Alabama
This is one of the better rivalries in all of college football, giving it some juice for this list. The Tigers will look to knock the Crimson Tide out of the playoff race but Alabama won’t go down easily.
They are coming off a bad loss last week and will be looking for some redemption. Rivalry games always find a way to make things interesting so fans should buckle up for this one in Tuscaloosa.
2. No. 15 South Carolina @ No. 12 Clemson
A win for the Gamecocks could mean a trip to the College Football Playoff but it won’t be easy. Clemson is a tough team to take down at home and they are also fighting for their playoff lives.
The stakes are extremely high in this game, with each side needing a win to keep their postseason dreams alive.
1. Michigan @ No. 2 Ohio State
It doesn’t matter where these two teams are in the standings, it’s the best rivalry in college football. The Wolverines have had a down season but they would love nothing more than to hand the Buckeyes another loss.
Michigan has won the last three meetings between these schools, giving Ohio State an edge entering this crucial game. The Buckeyes could solidify themselves with a win over the Wolverines but in a rivalry game, anything goes.
