On Monday, Pope Francis showed modest improvement in lab tests and resumed some work, including calling a parish in Gaza City, the Vatican said.

The Vatican’s Monday evening bulletin was more upbeat than in recent days. It noted that the 88-year-old pontiff, suffering from pneumonia in both lungs, had not experienced any further respiratory concerns. A slight kidney infection detected on Sunday was not considered a concern. He continues to receive supplemental oxygen, although doctors say his prognosis remains guarded.

Earlier in the day, he received the Eucharist and resumed work in the afternoon.
