While the Toronto Blue Jays appear to be longshots in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, they’re still pursuing the outfielder. Having him join forces with first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would create a powerful one-two punch in the middle of their lineup.

But what if that happens with the Boston Red Sox and not in Toronto? It seems like Vlad Jr. is open to the idea, based on recent social media activity.

Guerrero had a terrific 2024 campaign with the Blue Jays, which included being named an All-Star, winning his second Silver Slugger Award and placing sixth in American League MVP Award voting. This was all possible because the right-handed hitter posted a .940 OPS with 30 home runs, 44 doubles, 103 RBI and 98 runs scored in 697 plate appearances.

The 25-year-old is estimated to earn $28.8 million in 2025, which is his final year of arbitration before reaching free agency. Can the Blue Jays retain him on a long-term contract? Spotrac has pegged his current market value at 10 years and $260 million. If Guerrero doesn’t stay in Toronto, could he land in Boston?

A picture was posted on Instagram imagining what it’d be like to have Soto, Guerrero and Rafael Devers teaming up on the Red Sox. Guerrero liked the post, which Tyler Milliken of The Section 10 podcast pointed out on X (formerly Twitter).

This would be quite a trio in Beantown – both in terms of production and payroll commitments. Devers is amid a $313 million deal, while Soto is expected to sign for at least $600 million. Even if Guerrero doesn’t hit the $300 million mark with his next contract, that would be $1 billion tied up between three players.

Soto needs to land in Boston first for this idea to even stay alive. If he does, it could be something to watch as Guerrero nears free agency.
